Funny: Being in North Dakota, I usually don't eat the most
exotic of foods. Mostly what people feed us is meat and potatoes, and I am just
fine with that! I'm a meat and potatoes kind of girl. This week however, one of
our recent concerts wanted to make us dinner, and she is from Liberia. In a way
she made us meat and potatoes just not how I'd normally eat it. It was fried potato
leaves (just the leaves) and whole fish and some crab all mixed into what she
called spicy greens soup. I've never consumed spicier food; my mouth was numb
for part of the lesson. It was fun to eat because we sat on the floor, and each
had a spoon, and just dug in! When I first looked at it, I was a bit
intimidated, because it was just green mush with some skeletons poking out, but
it wasn’t too bad! I'd eat it again if it was given to me 😊
I just need to learn how to eat red hot peppers first...
Spiritual: One important thing I learned this week is the
power of gratitude. Missionary work is not always instantly gratifying, and you
don't always get to see the fruits of your labors, but when you take time to be
grateful it seems the very world around you changes. The very act of counting
my blessings, and being grateful for the little things, seemed to start to
bring miracles to pass! Another amazing thing I got the opportunity to teach
this week, and I learned from a lot, is in order to have the spirit with us
always we need to do 3 things: be baptized, live worthily (be obedient), and
have faith. We can't have faith without hope or hope without faith, and we
can't have either without meekness, and we can't have meekness without charity,
which is the pure love of Christ. We can attain charity by praying for it and
actively trying to serve and love others. Whatever weaknesses we may have, one
way to improve is love.❤
Where I'm at: I still love Fargo! And Sister Thompson, the
work is always great here in Fargo. Lately there have been more challenges it
seems, but it's better to look at them as opportunities. I'm extremely grateful
to be serving here, and I'm very excited for all that lies ahead!
Ofa atu!
