Funny: Boy do I have a story for you! So earlier this week. We went to go visit a sweet little old lady in our branch named Star. She graciously welcomed us in and started telling us lengthy stories about her crazy exciting life. After talking with her for a while we read Moroni 7 with her which talks a lot about faith, hope, and charity. As soon as we were done reading she says "I just had a prompting to tell you something." "what is it?" we said somewhat skeptically and excited. “If someone tries to kidnap you fight to the death." ... " Do you each have weapons?" Sister Hamblin was given a pocket knife a while ago so she said "I have a knife." Star said "Always go for the jugular, and don't just stab you have to rip up." Hearing these words come from a sweet fragile little old lady who is almost in her 90's was a bit disconcerting to say the least. She then asked me "do you have a weapon?" .... "no."...

Funny: Serving in a small branch it is inevitable that we often get asked to speak in church. Now I'm not the best natural speaker in the whole world. However, with all the practice I've been getting a little better... so I thought. This Saturday we got a call from the elders in Chadrin Nebraska who were supposed to be speaking on Sunday in Hot Springs but couldn't anymore, asking us to speak, we said yes. Later that day we got another call from the branch presidency asking us to speak, we told them we were already planning on it. Saturday night we get another call from the Elders saying you don't have to speak anymore the branch presidency found someone else to speak. So we said alright that's fine with us. At the time we didn't realize that the people the branch presidency found to speak was us. So we went to church Sunday not having prepared anything, and found ourselves sitting up in front of the church about to give talks. Surprisingly the talks still tur...

Funny: I have had two funny conversations this week. I will tell you both of them. One of them is with an old man who has Alzheimer’s "They tell me I have Alzheimer’s, do I look like I have Alzheimer's to you!" "I don't know." "Well what do you know!" "I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true." "oh." The second conversation was in a Wendy's with a slightly intoxicated Lakota gentleman. "Can I ask you a question?" "Sure." (I was really hoping he was about to ask me about my name tag so I could tell him about the church) "Why are you SO beautiful?" ....... (didn't quite know how to respond so I just said the first thing I could think of) "Because I believe in Jesus Christ and because of him I am happy." "Yeah! And because of genetics passed on from your parents too." "Well...you’re not wrong." Spiritual: We have seen SO much succes...

Funny: Now that winter is moving in the bugs in South Dakota have decided it is time to invade our home. Sister Hamblin is deathly afraid of bugs. Especially spiders. Every time she sees a spider she will not be in that room until she is certain that I have killed it. Every companionship needs at least one who is brave enough to kill spiders. I am that one this companionship. We saw a giant spider right outside of our house. It must have been some type of tarantula because it was the same size as one. This spider even scared me! When we saw it, I asked her what would you have done if it was inside? Very calmly she said "I would have crapped my pants". Spiritual: General Conference was this week! I don't know if there is something about watching conference on a mission, but the spirit was So strong, and every question that I had going into conference was clearly and specifically answered. One of my questions was how can I labor more diligently exhorting with all long...

Funny: This week's funny paragraph is the kind of funny where I’m laughing on the outside, but crying on the inside. It snowed this week. I was not emotionally, nor physically prepared for it. My teeth start chattering at about 45 degrees or so. Pretty soon the warmest it will be here is 32. Teaching people the gospel with my teeth chattering is apparently pretty comical. My hope is the Lord will bless me and help me acclimate to South Dakota winters. Hopefully I don't get transferred north this winter. Only time will tell. If anyone was thinking about sending me a package for Christmas, I wouldn't say no to stuff that keeps me warm!  😊 Spiritual: Elder Taylor came to our mission this week and motivated and inspired us so much! The Spirit was strong when he spoke. Some of the major things I took away from it was it is impossible to love others too much. When we love God first the love for others and ourselves falls into place right after it. Every single individual n...
